Physiatry, also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation, takes a
non-surgical approach to treating musculoskeletal problems, which is
why physiatrists are often called non-operative spine specialists. By using
physical therapy, exercise and pain management, physiatry has helped
many people who suffer from injuries and chronic/acute pain to return to
fully functioning lives.
Who can benefit from physiatry? If you suffer from one of the following
problems, physical medicine and rehabilitation can be effective.
Muscle, ligament, tendon or bone injuries
Back and shoulder pain
Pinched nerve
Whiplash and neck pain
Arthritis
Sports injuries
Strains and sprains
Tendinitis and bursitis
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Rotator cuff injury
Reflex sympathetic dystrophy
Occupational injuries
Nerve disorders
Stoke
Neurological diseases
Brain and spinal cord injuries
